{"id":1303,"date":"2018-04-18T09:32:09","date_gmt":"2018-04-18T09:32:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dogpigeon.co.uk\/?p=1303"},"modified":"2018-04-18T09:32:09","modified_gmt":"2018-04-18T09:32:09","slug":"first-iow-childrens-festival-a-great-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dogpigeon.co.uk\/?p=1303","title":{"rendered":"First IOW Children\u2019s Festival a great success!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am so pleased that I got to take part in the first Isle of Wight Children\u2019s Festival, hosted by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.quayarts.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Quay Arts<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ventnorexchange.co.uk\">Ventnor Exchange<\/a>, last week. The ten year old and I were enchanted by Yana and the Yeti, a magical puppet show produced by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pickledimage.co.uk\">Pickled Image<\/a> and Nordland Visual Theatre, about displacement and isolation and, ultimately, friendship and finding your place in the world.<\/p>\n<p>The ten year old really enjoyed the workshops too &#8211; particularly Fairies v Trolls, where you got to make (you guessed it) a troll or a fairy (the ten year old did both) and the Comic Strip session &#8211; both of these were great fun and really well led.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/c7406972.myzen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/63F30746-BE8F-43EC-B529-6A907C50C857.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1305 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/c7406972.myzen.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/63F30746-BE8F-43EC-B529-6A907C50C857.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"528\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dogpigeon.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/63F30746-BE8F-43EC-B529-6A907C50C857.jpeg 528w, https:\/\/www.dogpigeon.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/63F30746-BE8F-43EC-B529-6A907C50C857-300x545.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.dogpigeon.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/63F30746-BE8F-43EC-B529-6A907C50C857-165x300.jpeg 165w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 528px) 100vw, 528px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>What was particularly nice about the Children\u2019s Festival though, was its overall vibe. It was genuinely child-friendly, with lots of welcoming smiley faces, a soft play area with toys and books (sometimes occupied by the lovely local storyteller, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thatsanotherstory.co.uk\">Sue Bailey<\/a>), a special children\u2019s menu and books and colouring in on every table in the cafe. The inaugural Children\u2019s Festival was a great success.
